For the first time, we ordered an appetizer (because we were saving money :-D ), which was the sampler platter at $6.95. Folks, this would normally be a MEAL for two people. It had a mound of wonderful banana chips, a huge Cuban tamale, yucca fries, two empanadas, sautéed onions, pulled pork, and an enormous meat filled potato cake. Madre mio! I got my usual sea bass Cuban replete with caramelized onions and plantains, Ann got her usual Cuban with plantains, and Pastor and wife shared grilled sea bass over rice, white bean soup, black beans and rice, and mango pie. After extensive sharing of tastes, we all felt like we'd had an exceptional meal with very caring service. The owner came by to check on us several times. My dad went to Cuba in the mid 1950's and stayed for a month. Since then he has had a thing for quality Cuban food; rice & beans, ropa vieja,cuban sandwhich, lechon asada, etc. The place is authentic, and the food is the real thing. We started out with a couple of Presidentes and I had the cuban sandwhich and he hade the ropa vieja. Both were delicious and compare favorably to Cuban restaurants in Miami and New York. Had the opportunity to try out Palomilla's today for lunch with a group from work. I ordered the grilled fish special (about $9 on the lunch page) - lightly seasoned filet (reminded me of blackened Cajun with less spice) served with some chopped onion as garnish, white rice, black beans and four chunks of plantain. The food was excellent with slightly adjusted spices for the typical American palate. Service was excellent - as our group was made up of 10 people with separate checks, we still managed to get in and out in about an hour. I'm looking forward to sampling their other cuisine - the roast pork look particularly good. The lunch menu featured less expensive prices and what may have been smaller portions (will check that out in the future) - the average dinner plates were above $10, sandwiches less. John E.
